Skate and Annoy eBay Watch

One of my favorite items on the internet is the eBay watch on Every month Neil hunts down memorable eBay listings on skateboarding decks and discusses them briefly. It’s cool to see that some of those old decks will cost you more than a hyped up pair of sneakers.

All Star Saturday

I used to be a huge NBA fan when I was a kid (back when Starter was still around in its original form) Nowadays I don’t pay that much attention the league anymore. I do check out the All Star weekend every year, wich always makes me realize how much I’m not in touch with NBA basketball, I don’t know half the guys that are competing, especially on Saturday. Still, it’s always a good watch. 3-Point shoot-out final had an amazing ending with both guys killing it at the last rack, but sadly enough the tie-brake was nowhere as exciting. Cook won it, and deserved it since he had the highest scores of the night. Skills challenge was allright, Tony Parker messed up big time with his college 3-pointers. Derrick Rose took it and ended his run with a great dunk, not bad for a rookie.

Dunk contest wasn’t as wild as last years. There were some great ideas but they kinda lacked in execution. Dwight Howard brought some proper showmanship by entering a phonebooth to put on his Superman cape (and a jersey that was 3 sizes too small). Nate ‘Kryptonite’ Robinsion deserved to win. Rudy Fern├índez and Pau Gasol had my favorite Dunk of the night, too bad it took so many tries.

New this year was HORSE, something that fits perfectly within the other Saturday activities. Too bad it took them so long to come up with some more original stuff, and sadly enough most of it failed. Joe Johnson’s shot sitting on a chair behind the computer table was great though, he almost made it as well. Kevin Durant hade a great comeback thanks to some really clean long range shots. Still it’s kinda lame to win HORSE with normal shots, creativity and originality are the keys to a good game of HORSE.

WTF moments: Dwayne Wade’s band-aid and Dwight Howard’s shoes (what the hell inspired that colorway?)

New Simpson’s opening

Tonight the longest running animated series ever will have its first HD episode. The celebrate this occassion, they changed the classic opening. Not in a major way though, the basic principle is still the same. I don’t really hate it, but it kinda feels bad to mess with something so classic (although the last Simpsons seasons haven’t been that classic) Anyway, see for yourself (don’t forget to click the HQ button):

Still ill

Being sick sucks. I got the whole package, flu, hot one moment, cold the other, a bad cough, headaches etc. Trying to entertain myself with daytime tv (wich even in the weekend is pretty crappy) and downloaded tv-shows (Josh Wedon’s new show Dollhouse and old episodes of The Office) while eating soup, orange juice and painkillers. It’s been a while since I’ve been sick, hope it won’t take too long to recover.

Mind Field (again)

I promise, this is the last thing I write about Mind Field. Downloaded the movie today and was kind of disappointed. It’s not that it’s a bad movie, but I got the feeling that it could’ve been better. On the plus side: Grant Taylor, Heath Kirchart and Anthony van Engelen had great parts, Mikey Taylor’s was dope as well. J Masic’s apperance in the beginning was a nice surprise. Dill’s part wasn’t wat I hoped for. The other parts were… slow. It was mostly because of the music, wich was too slow for a skatevid. It just didn’t get me psyched to hop on a skateboard. Even Jake Johnson’s part, with some raw NY stuff and a sick wallride, just didn’t do it for me. If I compare it to Pops part in Fully Flared it just falls short. To me a good videopart is about the overall feeling, and Mind Field just didn’t deliver enough of that. And I’m not even going to start on Berra and Dyrdek not having full parts (I guess entertaining the masses on MTV/The Berrics takes it toll). Kinda bummed out.

Still Waiting…

The movie Waiting… was a surprise hit for me. I downloaded it because I wanted something to watch on a lazy sunday afternoon and was quite surprised that it was actually pretty good. I could’ve known since it’s inspired by Clerks, wich happens to be my favorite movie of all time. After a while the first rumors of a sequel to Waiting… popped up. Dubbed Still Waiting… it was supposed to take place the day after Waiting… Most of the original cast would have a ‘day off’ so they could introduce some new characters.

Yesterday I stumbled upon the DVD rip of Still Waiting and was kinda dissapointed. The events in the sequel take place a few years after the original and the movie is a bit ‘cheaper’. They threw in a Hooters-like place next door (hot girls = sales) and the characters are not as lovable as in the first one. Also, the story is quite weak and the original castmembers that returned are not as strong as they were in Waiting… Plus the whole vibe of the work place and the things that happen during a day is lost. I guess that’s just how it goes with (comedy) sequels, they never live up to your expectations.
